Members opened up about the wide range of amyloidosis symptoms that caught them off guard, with fatigue, breathlessness, and muscle weakness emerging as the most commonly mentioned surprises, alongside less expected symptoms like carpal tunnel syndrome, enlarged tongue, and spinal stenosis. Several members shared practical strategies that have helped them manage their symptoms, including walking regularly (even if slowly with rest stops), using walkers or canes for stability, taking midodrine for orthostatic hypotension, placing a walker by the bedside to prevent falls, and working with physical therapy or using recumbent bikes to maintain mobility. A recurring theme was the emotional challenge of losing stamina and independence after being active for years, balanced by fierce determination to keep moving forward, adapt to new limitations, and hold onto hope that new treatments will improve their quality of life.

Don't give up! Your symptoms can be managed and you can find ways to enjoy life. Everyone can if they try.

I went out and purchased a walker by my bed also Sara2. What a difference that made! Not sure whether the confidence was a factor but I do not feel unsteady after the first night on the walker by the bed.

Yeah you just have to focus on the positive and not worry to much about the negative affects. I lost a lot of muscle mass due to amyloidos and can't seem to gain any weight so I've been focusing on maintaining the weight I have and not losing anymore.

I find it hard to walk like I used to walk - two miles easily. Now I have aches and pains but I do not whether the torn muscle with a repair is responsible or not. I was surprised that I often take a nap now.
