I am awaiting full tests. I had Amyloid deposits removed from my false vocal chords. Is this likely to be just laryngeal amyloidosis?

Having amyloid deposits on the false vocal cords is actually a recognized pattern in laryngeal amyloidosis. The false vocal cords are a known site where deposits can form, and localized laryngeal amyloidosis does exist as its own condition, separate from systemic amyloidosis. That said, it's not possible to say for certain without full testing. Here's why the full workup matters:

- Around 15% of people with systemic amyloidosis develop laryngeal symptoms, so deposits there can sometimes be part of a wider picture
- A full evaluation helps determine whether the amyloidosis is localized (just the larynx) or systemic (affecting other organs)
- Biopsy and imaging like laryngoscopy are key tools in making that distinction

The good news is that you're already on the right path by having the deposits removed and awaiting further tests. Make sure to share any new or changing symptoms with your healthcare team in the meantime.

Hi Stewart, I know that waiting to find out the exact diagnosis is worrying try not to speculate but remain positive while the experts do all the medical tests to work out what is going on .Have you been able to get the referral to Royal free yet? Whatever the case, please stay on top of this because it is the best place where the condition is monitored and managed .I should have been referred over a year ago ,unfortunately this was delayed for a whole year because ENT did not make the referral, it’s only following the post op complications I had that this is now being processed. You have to be your own advocate to get things moving at the speed you require and don’t forget to ask questions about everything . Just keep busy with exercise and walking but do rest when you feel the need to .

Seems likely yes but have they tested your blood for free light chains yet? They thought mine was localized and ended up being caused by my bone marrow.
