Will your hair grow back after thinning for 18 months?

Hair loss can happen for various reasons when living with amyloidosis. While you mentioned your hair stopped falling out during chemo, the continued thinning afterward suggests something else may be contributing.

Nail and hair changes can signal underlying health issues. Conditions like alopecia can cause hair loss and may also show up as nail pitting or dents. It's important not to dismiss these symptoms even if they don't seem directly related to amyloidosis.

Since your hair loss has continued for 18 months after chemo ended, it's worth discussing with your healthcare provider. They can help determine if this is related to:

• Your amyloidosis affecting new areas
• A side effect from current treatments
• Another underlying condition that needs attention
• Nutritional deficiencies or inflammation

Whether your hair will grow back depends on what's causing the loss. Your doctor can run tests to identify the root cause and recommend appropriate treatment options. Some causes of hair loss are reversible with proper treatment, while others may require different management approaches.
