Hello All: A normal blood test will NOT reveal Amyloidosis. You need to have a biopsy on the bone marrow or Fat pad. These are definitive for the disease diagnosis and done usually be a Hematologist, but, further mor focused testing at the molecular level will determine the TYPE of Amyloidosis you have. Please use the SEARCH BAR at the top right of the page and search for Testing for Amyloidosis. You will find numerous easy to read articles and videos that will educate you and empower you to be more of an advocate for your health.

The most common staging system is the Mayo Clinic system, which focuses on heart damage. It uses three key biomarkers:

- NT-proBNP (N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide): Shows when your heart is under pressure or not working well
- Cardiac troponin T (cTnT): Appears in blood when heart cells are damaged
- dFLC (difference between involved and uninvolved free light chains): Measures abnormal light-chain proteins in your blood

Your stage is determined by comparing these biomarker levels to standard cutoffs. Stage 1 means all biomarkers are normal, Stage 2 means one is elevated, Stage 3 means two are elevated, and Stage 4 means all three are elevated.

Different staging systems exist depending on which type of amyloidosis you have and which organs are affected. Some focus on heart damage while others look at kidney function. Your hematologist will choose the most appropriate system for your specific situation.
