The most effective approach is to treat the underlying ATTR-CM itself. There are three FDA-approved medications that can slow the disease:
- Tafamidis (Vyndamax) — taken orally
- Acoramidis (Attruby) — taken orally
- Vutrisiran (Amvuttra) — an injection given every three months
These medications work by either stabilizing the TTR protein or reducing how much of it the liver produces, which helps slow the buildup of amyloid in the body. In addition to ATTR-CM treatments, doctors often prescribe diuretics to help flush out excess fluid, which can reduce swelling in the belly, legs, and ankles.
