Xanax is the last thing I would take. I was on it many years ago. It increased my anxiety. I would feel something was creeping up my back. I take clonazepam aka klonopin. Have done well by it. But we are all different. Good luck kiddo.

That's a really important question to bring up with your cardiologist or amyloidosis specialist before taking anything new — even occasionally.

With wild-type amyloidosis, the heart muscle becomes thick and stiff, which means it's more sensitive to certain medications. Some drugs that are commonly prescribed for heart issues are actually discouraged because they can lower blood pressure too much or interact poorly with a stiff heart muscle. Xanax (alprazolam) can lower blood pressure and cause dizziness or lightheadedness — symptoms that people with wild-type amyloidosis may already be experiencing. This could make those symptoms worse.

A few things worth discussing with your doctor:

- Whether Xanax is safe given your current heart function
- Whether any other anxiety management options might be safer for you
- Non-medication approaches like talk therapy or biofeedback, which can be effective for managing anxiety without added cardiovascular risk

Please don't skip that conversation — it's really worth a quick check before taking it, even just once in a while.
