Heart palpitations when lying down can indeed be connected to AL amyloidosis. When amyloid proteins build up in the heart, they can make the heart walls thick and stiff, which disrupts the heart's normal electrical system and affects how well it fills and pumps blood.

This can lead to an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), which you might feel as a pounding, fluttering, or racing sensation — especially when lying flat. Other heart-related symptoms to be aware of with AL amyloidosis include:

- Shortness of breath, even at rest or with light activity
- Fatigue that doesn't improve with rest
- Swelling in the feet, ankles, legs, or belly
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Chest discomfort or pressure

One MyAmyloidosisTeam member shared something worth noting — they actually felt worse when their blood pressure was in the "normal" range, which their medical team linked to wall thickening in the heart affecting how blood is pumped.

It's really important to let your care team know about these palpitations, especially since some standard heart medications may not work the same way with amyloidosis. A cardiologist familiar with amyloidosis can run tests like an echocardiogram, ECG, or cardiac MRI to get a clearer picture of what's going on.

Irma, that's exactly the right thing to do. I did that but after some weeks found things improved and I could manage to sleep again with normal pillow height. We Never know what this rotten disease will do next.

I have the same thing Nancy but the most frustrating thing about this disease is the diarrhea. I could deal with all the other stuff.
