Weight loss is a common symptom experienced by many people with amyloidosis. Even when maintaining a healthy diet with vegetables and meat, weight loss can occur due to the effects of amyloid protein buildup in your body's organs and tissues. Nearly 90% of people with amyloidosis experience weight loss as part of their condition. It's important to maintain a balanced diet with adequate protein from various healthy sources like poultry, fish, and beans. The proteins you eat in food are different from the amyloid proteins that build up in your body, so you don't need to restrict protein unless you have kidney complications and your doctor specifically advises it.
If you're concerned about continued weight loss despite eating well, please discuss this with your healthcare provider. They can evaluate your specific situation and may recommend dietary modifications or other interventions to help manage your weight.
