Neuropathy in AL patients can be caused by the disease itself OR by some of the treatment drugs used to treat it. Velcade is the drug used most commonly used now that can cause neuropathy. Thalidomide, which is not commonly used any longer is most definately know to cause neuropathy. It is extremely important to notify your doctor of any neuropathy symptoms that occur if you are currently receiving treatments. They may stop that particular drug or watch your symptoms more closely to make sure they dont advance. If the neuropathy is caused by the treatment drugs, it may get better once treatment stops. Any neuropathy that remains a year or so later may be permanent. Talk to your doctor to try and determine the cause of your neuropathy. Gabapentin, cymbalta and lyrica are some of the most common treatments to help ease the pain associated with neuropathy.
