No it was mistaken for a clot by CTA. But it, was later discovered a build-up of amyloidosis.

A cardiac PYP scan is specifically designed to detect amyloid deposits in the heart, not throughout the entire body. It uses a small amount of radioactive material that collects in areas of the heart where amyloid proteins have built up.

The scan is particularly useful for:

- Confirming whether amyloid deposits are present in the heart
- Identifying the type of amyloidosis affecting the heart (ATTR vs. AL)
- Assessing severity — how much amyloid has accumulated
- Monitoring treatment — tracking whether therapy is working over time To check for amyloid deposits elsewhere in the body, other tests are typically used. For example, a fat pad biopsy (a small sample of belly fat) can reveal amyloid in fatty tissue, since amyloid can spread to various organs and tissues.

If there's concern about amyloid affecting other parts of the body, it's worth having a conversation with the care team about what additional testing might make sense.
