Hello, I just had a cardioMEMMS placed about a month ago after several recent hospitalizations for fluid overload d/t heart failure. It has been very helpful so far. The cardiologist gets readings daily and can tell when I am retaining fluid. They have notified me twice in the last month that my pressures are high, meaning I am retaining fluid. They instructed me to take exta diuretics which I believe prevented another hospitalization. The problem with retaining fluid is you can start getting into trouble before you have any symptoms. With the carioMEMMS you can treat the fluid overload before you start having problems. I highly recommend anybody with heart failure consider the cardioMEMMS if you have problems with fluid overload.

That's a great question — and it's completely understandable to want to hear from others who've been through it. While there aren't specific shared experiences from MyAmyloidosisTeam members about CardioMEMS available here right now, it's worth knowing how fluid buildup and breathing connect in amyloidosis.

That's a great question — and it's completely understandable to want to hear from others who've been through it. While there aren't specific shared experiences from MyAmyloidosisTeam members about CardioMEMS available here right now, it's worth knowing how fluid buildup and breathing connect in amyloidosis.

For those with cardiac amyloidosis, fluid can accumulate because the heart struggles to pump efficiently. This often leads to shortness of breath, swelling, and fatigue. Monitoring pulmonary pressure with a device like CardioMEMS can help your care team catch fluid changes early — before symptoms get worse — and adjust treatments proactively. Some general tips that may help manage breathlessness alongside your monitoring include:

- Reducing sodium intake to limit fluid buildup
- Gentle daily exercise, like walking, as tolerated
- Propping your head up with extra pillows while sleeping
- Taking prescribed medications consistently

It's also important to seek urgent care if shortness of breath becomes sudden or severe, or is accompanied by chest pain, rapid heartbeat, or bluish lips or nails.

Definitely bring any breathing changes — big or small — to your care team's attention. They're your best guide through this.
