The simple answer is NO. What you eat has nothing to do with developing any type of amyloidosis. However, what you eat can impact how you do once diagnosed with amyloidosis, especially if you have heart or kidney involvement. A low sodium diet is needed to help reduce fluid retention that can negatively impact someone with congestive heart failure or kidney failure. Daily fluid intake may also need to be reduced in certain patients with cardiac failure. Your doctor should inform you when this is necessary. Fluid is the enemy for many amyloid patients with heart involvement. My husband is on daily fluid restrictions and it does not matter if it is water or the fluid found in fruits such as grapes, oranges, etc. One grape counts as one fluid ounce. He is limited to 55 ozs per day of fluid.
If you are in kidney failure, the daily intake of protein may need to be limited. A nephrologist can tell you more about that. Dietary protein causes the kidneys to work harder and you don't want to do that to organs that are already compromised.
In my opinion I think certain fatty acids from milk proteins and also lactose can feed bacteria in the body I also question what gluten does to our bacteria, are they creating biofilms, is there a connection with biofilms and amyloidosis? When I ingest these things I feel my body react. Are these things causing the cells to produce Amyloids ?
