Yes. I have both. About 15% do. The MM is practically an afterthought. In my case, I was refractory to four lines of treatment and was getting desperate. I realized that having MM made me eligible for CAR-T. Discussed with hematologist and was treated with Carvykti. MRD-Negative Complete Response a few weeks after infusion. Ongoing CR 19 months last week. So, while it sounds bizarre, the low-burden concomitant MM saved my life.

Yes, AL amyloidosis and multiple myeloma often overlap, and many people are diagnosed with both conditions. This happens because both conditions involve plasma cells in the bone marrow. When these cells become cancerous, they can produce excess proteins that travel through the body and build up in organs.
Common symptoms that people experience with both conditions include:
- Shortness of breath
- Diarrhea
- Early feeling of fullness when eating
- Weight loss
- Swelling in legs, ankles, and feet
- Nerve pain or tingling
- Heart issues Treatment options can be effective for managing both conditions simultaneously. In some cases, people can use the same treatments for both conditions, while others may need to switch treatments. The good news is that with current treatments, many people achieve long-term remission and can live for many years after diagnosis.
Remember that everyone's experience is different. Your healthcare team can provide the best guidance for your specific situation and help determine the most effective treatment approach for you.
